LANCASTER (1080 KRLD) - One North Texas school district's proposed buyout of its superintendent has gotten the attention of the TEA.

On October 29th, the Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees voted to give Superintendent Elijah Granger a five-year contract extension.

But less than two weeks later, those same trustees voted to buy out Granger's contract for $2 million.

As the TEA has launched an investigation, the school board voted in a special meeting Monday night to suspend Granger with pay and to consider revising his buyout agreement.

Trustee Carolyn Ann Morris tells KRLD she supports the TEA's investigation.

"Hopefully with TEA coming in and looking at the situation, that we can give back to the business of educating our children," says Morris.

The circumstances surrounding Granger's buyout and suspension are unclear at this time.

Morris says ultimately, she would like to see this resolved with the least amount of money spent.

"I don't want to see this district having to pay out millions of dollars that could be put in our teaching staff and, definitely first of all, in education to our children," Morris says.
