A Cleburne man has been indicted in California, accused of a cross-country sexual assault spree after a teenager was kidnapped in San Antonio.
Officials say a man identified as Steven Sablan was indicted Thursday on charges of kidnapping and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Court documents accuse Sablan of using a gun to kidnap the 13-year-old victim in San Antonio two weeks ago and drive to California, stopping along the way to rape the girl.
He was arrested last week in Long Beach, 20 miles south of Los Angeles.
While Sablan was in a laundromat washing clothes, leaving the girl in the car, she held up a sign saying "Help Me." Someone walking by saw it and called police who got there before Sablan could get away.
Looking at both those charges, Sablan could go to federal prison for life.
