Police in North Richland Hills need your help in finding the driver who shot a 16-year-old boy along Loop 820.
The shooting happened at around 10:45 last Saturday morning along eastbound Loop 820 near Iron Horse Boulevard.
Police say it started with a 16-year-old boy driving a purple car may have inadvertently cut off an SUV.
"At some point, the dark-colored SUV became frustrated after inadvertently being cut off," says Carissa Katekaru, North Richland Hills Police spokeswoman. "And he may have began tailgating ... and then fired off several rounds into that purple car."
Katekaru says the outcome could have been much worse.
"The young man was hit once. He is expected to be okay; he's already been treated and released from the hospital," says Katekaru.
Right now, investigators do not have much to go on.
"The only description we've been able to get is a dark-colored SUV," Katekaru says. "We believe it may be black, but you know, sometimes that dark navy blue can look black."
And that is where the public comes in.
"We're hopeful that maybe somebody saw something. Maybe they were in the area and may have seen something that they could give us any other descriptor on the vehicle," says Katekaru. "A partial license plate, anything at this point, will be very helpful to the detectives in the investigation."
Katekaru says no matter the circumstance, there's no excuse for road rage.
"Road Rage has become a large problem here in the Metroplex and across the nation really," Katekaru says. And so, we take these really, really seriously, and we're just really thankful that he's okay."
