The Governor of Tennessee is sending more troops to the Texas-Mexico border as part of Operation Lone Star.
Tennessee sent 300 members of its National Guard to Texas earlier this year. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has just announced he will send an additional 50 personnel to Texas early in 2022.
"An open border has far-reaching consequences that are fueling a drug crisis impacting both our national security and the safety of our state," said Gov. Lee. "I have authorized additional Tennessee Guard support at our southern border as we look to address drug trafficking at the source."
Several other states have also sent manpower to Texas this year to supplement members of the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety along the border with Mexico.
"Our country is stronger and safer when we tackle dire issues together, and I thank Governor Lee for these additional members of the Tennessee Guard who will join Texas in securing the border and protecting our communities," said Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
