One month ago, Fort Worth Aviation Director Bill Welstead was fired but at the time, no one was saying why. Now, we know.
Using state open records laws, NBC 5 got ahold of Welstead's termination letter which has a long list of misdeeds he's accused of.
The Fort Wroth city audit committee was told to look into Welstead's tenure as Aviation Director, in charge of three city airports including Meacham and Alliance.
Based on the letter, among the items that got Welstead fired was buying land adjacent to Meacham to open an Aviation company - without disclosing this to his bosses.
There was also a hit-and-run crash involving a city vehicle which Welstead was accused of trying to cover up while using a city credit card to pay for the damages.
While fired, Welstead has not been charged with any crimes.
