A little puppy is safe, although a bit smelly, after being rescued from a septic tank in Terrell Thursday night.

Just after 6 p.m. the pup's owner called the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department for help that her little dog had fallen into the septic tank at their home on County Road 301.

A team of firefighters was there in minutes. Working through an opening only about six inches by ten inches, they figured out a snare system and worked the little dog to safety. Reports say he was not hurt.

The firefighters had to decontaminated at the site before returning to the fire house.

Luckily enough, three of the firefighters have professional experience installing and maintaining septic systems. And, for a fourth, it was his first call. He had completed his background check and was added to the TVFD roster just hours before.
