1:00 P.M UPDATE: We may have a verdict in the Billy Chemirmir capital murder case by the close of business.
Just after noon on day 4 of the trial of alleged serial killer Billy Chemirmir, the State rested its case against him, the jury was sent to lunch, and in a hearing outside the jury's presence the defense said it will rest as soon as they come back….no witnesses.
That sets things up for closing arguments and then deliberation. One of the final witnesses was an FBI agent who specializes in cell phone tracking. He was able to put Chemirmir in the location of victim Kim Harris at the time she was believed smothered and then selling her ring online within nine minutes.
A member of one victim's family said there was a gasp in the family viewing room when that happened. One jewelry broker said he, alone, paid Chemirmir more than $91,000 for jewelry over the last few years. The state says it was stolen.
Mary Brooks of Richardson was found dead in January 2018 by her grandson, David Cuddihee who was checking on her well-being.
Prosecutors say Brooks had shopped at the same WalMart as victim Kim Harris. And surveillance video showed, as with Harris, Chemirmir was at the store at the same time.
