The jury in the Aaron Dean murder trial on Tuesday saw body camera video from the night the former Fort Worth police officer shot Atatiana Jefferson and heard from Dean's partner that night.

The video was played during the testimony of Ofc. Carol Darch, who, along with Dean, went to Jefferson's home to investigate an open door.

Darch and Dean never knocked on the open front door, but instead went around to the side yard. The two were back-to-back when Darch said she heard a gunshot.

The two then went into the house and saw Jefferson on the floor. Her focus at that time, she said, was the child, Zion Carr, who was crying. She wanted to get him out of the room.

On the first day of the trial, the jury got a first-hand account of the fatal shooting of Jefferson from her nephew. Zion Carr, 11, said he was in a bedroom of the Fort Worth house playing video games with Jefferson when she heard a sound outside.

The child said he never heard another sound, he only saw Jefferson fall to the floor. Prosecutors say Dean had been sent to the house for a welfare check but never announced he was a police officer. They say Jefferson never had a chance to put her hands up.

The defense says Jefferson had pointed her gun at the officer, and he fired in self-defense.
