Texans receiving umeployment benefits will again have to provide proof they are looking for work

Texans who are receiving unemployment benefits will again have to prove they are looking for work to continue collecting.

The Texas Workforce Commission had dropped the work-search requirement back in March as businesses across the state shut down because of COVID-19 and the unemployment rate went up dramatically.

The Commission has voted to reinstate that requirement effective on November 1st.

The agency says people who are unemployed can continue to receive their benefits, but they will have to show they're making an active effort to find a new job.

The Executive Director of the Commission says the state is not over COVID-19 yet, but employment opportunities are beginning to bounce back as businesses begin to reopen.
