Nearly all of Texas is under either Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings today. The only exceptions are nine counties in the Rio Grande Valley and two in the Panhandle.
A wildfire is burning in the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness. The Cutoff Ridge fire is at 385 acres as of 9 p.m. Monday.
Fire danger is rated high-to-very high in half the state. The Texas A&M Forest Service has upped its Wilderness Fire Preparedness to Level 3 due to current and expected wildfire activity across several regions of the state, conditions of the fire environment and an increased commitment of resources to multiple incidents.
Since Friday, the Forest Service has responded to 15 wildfires which have increased over the past week as triple digit temperatures and dry conditions continue to hammer the state.
ERCOT has also called a Weather Watch for today, an advanced warning of significant weather with high demand for electricity.
