DPS troopers arrested a couple of men from North Texas as part of a ring to steal Lego sets from different stores in four states.
The DPS investigation discovered that this was a $400,000 scheme to steal Lego sets from Walmart and Target stores and resell them online. In November, officials arrested 33-year-old Brian Fleming and Ladarion Anderson in Tarrant County. Both men are from Lancaster.
They were both charged with engaging with organized crime and thief. These charges come from four stores in East Texas, including those located in Longview and Tyler.
According to documents, Anderson and Fleming would go into a Walmart, and walk to the Lego aisle. Using their debit or credit cards, they would purchase items under a dollar. Once they left, they would meet up with other ring member and give them their receipt. Those members would then go into the store and grab the same items. If they were stopped while leaving the store without paying, they would show the same receipt Anderson and Fleming had given them.
In December, Fleming was booked into the Smith County Jail on bond for $1.1 million, and Anderson is in the Warrant County Correction Center on bond for more than $1.4 million.
Police shared this Lego ring involves at least 10 people, and it's been around for around two years.
