The Texas case challenging the abortion drug mifepristone will be argued before the US Supreme Court today, it's the first big abortion challenge since the Dobbs ruling nearly two years ago.

Months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe versus Wade, a group of medical professionals who are opposed to abortion brought suit against the Food and Drug Administration over the drug mifepristone.

The groups say the FDA was wrong in approving the drug 24 years ago, and wrong when it relaxed availability in 2021.

UNT Dallas law professor Brian Owsley says they brought the challenge in Amarillo Federal Court where a conservative judge ruled in their favor.

The FDA is fighting back saying the medical professionals don't have legal standing to bring the lawsuit.

A ruling is not expected before the end of June.
