The State of Texas has carried out the execution of 51-year-old Gary Green of Dallas. He was convicted of capital murder for killing his wife and her daughter in 2009. Lovetta Armstead, age 32, was stabbed and her six-year-old daughter, Jazzmen, was drowned.

Green also attempted to kill Armstead's two sons, but they survived the attack. They attended the execution in Huntsville on Tuesday.

"In his final statement, Green apologized for his crime and looked directly at Jerrett Armstead and Jerome Armstead, telling them that he was sorry for taking their mother and sister away from them," said Robert Hurst with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Attorneys for Green had argued against his execution. They said he was intellectually disabled and had a history of psychiatric problems. Lower courts and the U.S.Supreme Court rejected those arguments, and Green's attorneys did not file any last-minute appeals.

Green is the fourth inmate put to death in Texas so far in 2023. The state has another execution scheduled for Thursday, March 9th. Arthur Brown Jr. and two other people were convicted of four murders in Harris County  in 1992.
