Texas Governor Greg Abbott says the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Division of Emergency Management will have dozens of nurses, respiratory therapists and plenty of personal protective equipment transported immediately to the El Paso area to help hospitals dealing with infected patients.
Governor Abbott says, "It is vital that Texas communities seeing an uptick in hospitalizations have the resources they need to combat COVID-19. This surge in medical personnel and PPE will help support El Paso's hospitals and first responders as we mitigate the spread of this virus. The State of Texas will continue to work alongside local officials and prioritize the health and safety of Texans."
El Paso County reports a new record number of active cases at 6,145. That's a sharp rise since the pandemic began.
