The North Texas Jewish population is celebrating Hanukkah in the aftermath of another global anti-Semitic terror attack, this time in Australia.
Regional Director of the American Jewish Committee, Joel Schwitzer, says the attack on Bondi Beach, while shocking, is all too predictable.
"In fact, the CEO of American Jewish Committee was in Australia with the leadership of the Australian Jewish Committee just last September," Schwitzer said. "Imploring the government to do something about the unchecked rise in anti-Semitism that the community was experiencing."
He is encouraging North Texas members of the Jewish faith to post Hanukkah photos with the hashtag #LightForAustralia to give support and solidarity to those directly affected by the attack.
They plan to gather with Jewish community leaders, diplomats across Texas, and elected officials Tuesday night to light the third candle of Hanukkah.
