Texas leaders are calling out false claims online that a cloud seeding operation over parts of Texas two days prior to the catastrophic flooding contributed to the devastation.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says no cloud seeding operation could cause that much rain to fall.

"The seeding is silver iodide and it causes a little rain shower to pop up," Miller said. "Usually not much."

Miller says there was a cloud seeding operation several miles away from the Hill Country but it could not have been a factor in the flash flooding.

"No, that was just a freak that happened," Miller said. "It wasn't caused by cloud seeding."

Cloud seeding is a practice that has existed for many decades.
