The Texas Longhorns fell 12 spots to No. 19 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday after a 27-24 home loss to unranked Florida on Saturday at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns entered the game ranked No. 7 and are now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference. It marked their second consecutive loss to an unranked opponent after a 27-24 defeat to Oklahoma the previous week. Texas had been ranked No. 1 earlier in the season following a win over Ohio State.
Florida improved to 5-2 and re-entered the rankings at No. 20, one spot behind the Longhorns. The Gators trailed 17-3 in the second quarter before rallying. Backup quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. made his first career start and threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Arch Manning finished 14 of 20 for 173 yards with one touchdown and lost a fumble late that Florida recovered.
Coach Steve Sarkisian said after the game that the team did not play very good football and that “everything is going to be evaluated.” The Longhorns managed only 272 total yards and converted just 2 of 10 third downs. Edge rusher Colin Simmons left the game with an injury in the fourth quarter.
Texas returns home Saturday to face No. 7 Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m. at Royal-Memorial Stadium. The Rebels are 5-1 and looking to strengthen their College Football Playoff resume with a road win.
The SEC leads the AP poll with nine ranked teams, including Georgia at No. 5, Ole Miss at No. 7, and Alabama at No. 13. Miami sits at No. 1 after Georgia and Notre Dame both lost over the weekend.
