Texas man with gun arrested outside VP Harris' D.C. home

A Texas man who officials say was armed with a semi automatic rifle is in custody this morning after being arrested in Washington near the official residence of Vice-President Kamala Harris.

The suspect identified as 31-year-old Paul Murray of Bryan, Texas reportedly told his mother he was going to Washington D.C. to "take care of his problem."

Reports say Secret Service agents stopped Murray Wednesday afternoon near the U.S. Naval Observatory, which is the traditional Vice President's mansion.

Vice President Harris was not in danger as she is not currently living at the Naval Observatory as it undergoes renovations.

Officials say they found a firearm, ammunition, and several gun clips with ammo in the man's car, which was parked in nearby garage.

Washington D.C. police said Murray is being held on charges of carrying a large-capacity ammunition-feeding device, a dangerous weapon, a rifle, and unregistered ammunition.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office released a statement, saying they had been in contact with Murray recently due to family concerns over his mental health.

"The Brazos County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with Paul Murray over the past two weeks at the request of family members due to his behavior. There were no criminal violations found, but our agency continued to monitor the situation because of concerning behavior and statements, as well as, information that Murray may have been in possession of weapons."
