Texas Motor Speedway will host NASCAR playoffs weekend later this month with the Andy's Frozen Custard 300 XFinity Playoff Series race Saturday, September 23 and the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Sunday, September 24.
The speedway says ticket sales are up year-over-year, and camping space in the infield is already nearly sold out.
"It's all about the fans," says Texas Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark Faber. "We want to have a great guest experience, a great fan experience, and that's what our team is working toward."
Faber says the races can introduce that fan base to Fort Worth and Texas.
"We have people coming in from all over the world," Faber says. "At recent races, I've met people from all over."
Infield camping is nearly sold out, but Faber says they do have exterior camping space still available.
This week, Texas Motor Speedway partnered with the PBR Team Series' Ariat Texas Rattlers. Driver William Byron, who ended the NASCAR regular season tied for first in points, met with bull riders at Cowtown Coliseum.
"We think our fans are look-alikes, so we want to reach out to fans, collaborate and say, 'How can we work together to promote PBR and our race?'" Faber says.
An excessive heat warning is in place over North Texas at least through Friday evening, but high temperatures are expected to retreat to the low 80s by the middle of next week with increased chances of rain. Faber says he hopes cooler weather stays in place for the two races.
"That would help not only the teams and drivers but, obviously, the thousands of fans coming," he says.
