Political leaders in Texas are reacting to the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Senator Ted Cruz called Kirk a courageous leader who he had been friends with dating back to when Kirk was a teenager. Cruz said it was horrific and he is stunned.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the act of pure evil is truly sickening and called on people to pray for Charlie's family and friends.

"Charlie was an American patriot, a friend, and a faithful husband and father," Paxton wrote on X.

Governor Greg Abbott said this senseless act of violence has no place in America.

"Cecilia and I are heartbroken by the assassination and passing of Charlie Kirk," Abbott said in a statement. "Charlie's voice was a beacon for millions of young Americans searching for truth, courage, and conviction."

"Sandy and I join the entire nation in lifting Charlie Kirk's family up in prayer," wrote Senator John Cornyn. "May God comfort them during this unimaginably difficult time."

"Charlie was a dear friend for many years, and I am heartbroken and in disbelief over his murder," wrote Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. "Please keep his wife, his two young children, and all of his loved ones in your prayers."

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
