As the Texas Rangers prepare to defend their World Series title, they are now selling merchandise to celebrate the win. They started selling "Gold Collection" hats, jerseys and souvenirs at the Grand Slam Team Store at Globe Life Field Thursday.
The clothing and souvenirs have a gold logo and gold trim to mimic the uniforms the Rangers will wear during their opening series against the Chicago Cubs.
When the team store opened Thursday, fans said a line stretched outside.
"I came by about 10 o'clock this morning, and there was a line wrapped around the building," one said. "Every 15 or 20 minutes, it seems like there's a new rush of people, so I think it's going to be an ongoing thing all year."
One fan was leaving with a bag filled with six hats with the gold Rangers logo.
"I think they're nice," he said. "I think they're really nice, really good quality. I like the color scheme. I like everything about it."
He said he was glad to keep celebrating last year's world title, but he says the team is built for ongoing success.
"I just think to really say it wasn't a fluke, we have to really contend for it and try to run it back as long as our pitching comes back healthy and batting looks like last year. " he said.
"It's a long season, so we've got to be built for it. It looks like we've got a good chance, though."
The Texas Rangers Gold Collection includes:
White jerseys—men’s, women’s and youth sizes
Blue Caps—adult fitted, adjustable, and snap caps
T-Shirts-- men’s, women’s and youth sizes
Novelties—lapel pins, magnets, decals, pennants, pint and shot glasses, tumblers, koozies, fan chains, and stance socks
The Rangers return to Globe Life Field next week. They will host the Boston Red Sox for exhibition games Monday at 7:05 and Tuesday at 1:05. Their season opener is Thursday, March 28 at 6:35 against the Chicago Cubs. Tickets are still available for the exhibition games; Opening Day is sold out with tickets only available through secondary markets.
