A man has died from police gunfire in McKinney overnight.
About 8 p.m. Monday police were called to a parking lot on Bumpass Street where a man with a knife was reported to be threatening to harm himself.
Repeatedly, officers told the man who was later identified as Sidney Dotson to drop the knife. But he ignored them and repeated his suicidal threats.
Police reports say Dotson suddenly charged the officers with the knife, ignoring one last order to drop it. Dotson was then shot.
Those officers immediately began life-saving attempts until paramedics arrived to rush him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
McKinney police have called in the Texas Rangers to investigate.
