Restaurants in Texas will have to make a decision regarding forcing tips on customers throughout the FIFA World Cup.
Mandatory gratuities are becoming reality in other host cities such as Boston and Kansas City.
Dr. Emily Williams Knight is President and CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association.
"This is a really tough one, I believe, for an association to weigh in on," Knight said. "Every restaurant has its own business model."
The reason behind this involves tourists coming to the United States from countries who simply do not tip. This is a fact of life across much of Europe.
Knight says this will likely be up to the individual restaurant whether to impose temporary mandatory tips on bills throughout the World Cup.
"The best practice is, if you do this, you must do it in this way," Knight said. "Make the choice that's best for your restaurant, your staff, and your guests."
