Texas Tech suspends men's basketball coach Mark Adams over masters and slaves Bible reference

Texas Tech has suspended men’s basketball coach Mark Adams for comments he made to a player.

According to reports, Adams says he was quoting a Bible verse referring to slaves and masters. Adams apologized to the team Sunday.

Athletic director Kirby Hocutt says he addressed the issue with Adams who is in his second full season as head coach. Hocutt issued a written reprimand and suspended Adams effective immediately to conduct a more thorough investigation.

The Red Raiders open Big 12 tournament play Wednesday against West Virginia.
