Texas and Florida again lead the nation as the top destinations for people moving to new states, according to a new analysis by U-Haul.

The moving company said its 2025 Growth Index, which reviewed more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul transactions across the United States and Canada, found Texas ranked No. 1 for in-migration. Florida followed, with North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina rounding out the top five.

California topped the list of states with the most people leaving, followed by Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts, according to the report.

“Texas reclaims the title of No. 1 U-Haul growth state for the seventh time in 10 years,” the company said in a statement. Texas moved up one spot after ranking behind South Carolina in 2024, while South Carolina fell four places.

U-Haul said the top 10 growth states also include Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Alabama and Georgia.
