An announcement this week from the Department of Transportation is welcome news by the Texas Truckers Association.
The Transportation Secretary announced plans to revoke the accreditation of nearly three thousand trucking schools if they do not comply with federal training requirements.
President and CEO of the Texas Truckers Association John Esparza says it's all about safety.
"If we are in better control of who is behind the wheel, or who is entering into this field and getting behind the wheel, we want to make sure they are properly trained," Esparza said.
Esparza says there is a certain level of quality required to drive an 80-thousand-pound truck.
The Transportation Secretary said they are reigning in illegal and reckless practices that let poorly trained drivers get behind the wheel of semis and school buses.
