The Texas Trucking Association is already doing what a new initiative from the Trump administration is pushing.
The "Freedom Haulers" program was unveiled this week aiming to bring military veterans into the nation's trucking industry.
Texas Trucking Association President and CEO John Esparza says Texas has the largest number of military veterans and they are always reaching out to them.
"There are a lot of opportunities in trucking and we are certainly in need of good-qualified individuals," Esparza said.
He says they have long held that returning veterans are a fantastic pool of individuals to be technicians or truck drivers.
"You need time behind the wheel and overseas when they are driving the equipment that they drive, they often get a taste of what it's like to drive a truck," Esparza said.
President Donald Trump unveiled the program Thursday alongside the Secretaries of Transportation and Labor.
