A tragic weekend on North Texas lakes has left three men dead in separate drowning incidents, including an off-duty firefighter at Lake Lavon and two others at Joe Pool Lake.
On Sunday afternoon, a 55-year-old man drowned at Joe Pool Lake after falling off a paddleboard near Lynn Creek Park. Grand Prairie rescue crews say he was not wearing a life jacket and never resurfaced. His body was recovered about two hours later.
Just a day earlier, a 46-year-old man died while swimming at the same lake. He was not wearing a flotation device and went under near the beach area. Bystanders called 911, but rescue efforts were unsuccessful.
In Collin County, authorities suspect another drowning involving an off-duty firefighter at Lake Lavon.
Sunday night, 2 children drowned at Cedar Creek Lake when their boat capsized.
Officials across North Texas are urging people to take water safety seriously as lake crowds grow with the summer heat. Life jackets, they say, can make the difference between life and death.
