Three Fort Worth police officers have been recognized for quick action that may have saved the lives of two shooting victims.
The shootings were last month. One victim was shot in the neck and officer Claudia Alfaro was the first one there. She found one victim shot in the neck and used her training to slow the bleeding until Med-Star paramedics arrived to take over the treatment.
Two other officers Jessica Morgan and Chelsey Newsom found the second victim had been shot in both thighs and was in danger of bleeding out. They used tourniquets to stop the bleeding until a second Med-Star unit arrived.
Med-Star says both victims may well have bled to death had it not been for the officers.
Yesterday, the Med-Star crews presented Alfaro, Morgan and Newsom with Lifesaver Awards.
