Nearly seven years after a man died in Dallas police custody, the federal civil trial of three officers and a former officer has been delayed without explanation.
Proceedings were scheduled to begin Monday but U.S. District Judge David Godbey abruptly announced a delay just as jury selection was due to begin. The new date is expected to be September.
In 2016, a man named Tony Timpa died after an officer named Dustin Dillard kneeled down on Timpa's back for nearly 14 minutes, based on police bodycam video.
Three other officers, Raymond Dominguez, Kevin Mansell and Danny Vasquez are also named in the lawsuit. Mansell is no longer with the Dallas Police Department but the other three remain employed.
