The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition has whittled its field down to an even dozen, down from the 30 musicians who started out in Fort Worth last week.

On Monday night the jury selected twelve semi-finalists who will begin performing Wednesday, continuing through Sunday.

Each pianist will perform an hour-long recital and a Mozart concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Six finalists will then be chosen.

The twelve semi-finalists include the sentimental favorite of many, Ukrainian Dmytro Choni.

The competition honors Kilgore's Van Cliburn who came to international fame in 1958, at the height of the Cold War, by humiliating the Soviet Union by winning the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
