A fire damaged a warehouse containing the offices of several businesses in Northeast Fort Worth on Monday.
The fire started about 11 a.m. at a warehouse on Pebble Drive near the 121-820 interchange. The Fort Worth Fire Department says the first crews to arrive saw flames and immediately called a second alarm.
"We went to go make a quick, aggressive, offensive attack," says the department's Craig Trojacek. "We went inside the building and tried to put the fire out. With the wind today, it never helps us out in the fire business."
Trojacek says the roof started to sag, so firefighters retreated to a defensive position, fighting the fire from the outside.
He says no one was hurt. Everyone who was inside the building escaped.
Several warehouses are next to each other in that area, so Trojacek says crews were fighting the wind to prevent any sparks or embers from igniting neighboring buildings.
"Fire is known to jump, and these buildings aren't too far away from each other," he says. "We try to bring as many resources as we think may be needed. That way, we have them right there on scene instead of wishing we had called for them earlier."
Trojacek says eight to ten businesses have offices in the building. In a place with lots of small offices, he says once firefighters had extinguished fire visible from outside, they would need additional time going from room to room to make sure there are no hotspots.
Once the fire is out, the Fort Worth Fire Department will begin looking for the cause.
