Two Dallas man have been indicted for the capital murders of two people they were trying to swindle after they attempted to use fake money to buy real weapons.
On October 12, 2021, police reports say a 19-year old gun dealer identified as Juan Sierra Garcia and 18-year old Ruby Gonzalez went to the Lowes at Cockrell Hill and I-30 to sell two men some guns.
The buyers had seen the guns advertised on Garcia's website. But court papers say things went bad as soon as everyone arrived at the agreed to purchse site.
Court records say the two suspects identified as Ricky Downs and Tevaris Gibson tried to use fake money to buy the weapons. When Garcia backed out of the deal, the records say the bullets started flying. Garcia died that night, and Gonzalez died a couple days later.
Police say the two suspects stole Garcia's truck then abandoned it. When it was found, police records say it had more fake money inside and some of the phony bills had Gibson's fingerprints on them.
Both men are now facing capital murder charges that could involve the death penalty.
