Two dead after outbreak of drug-resistant fungus in North Texas

There have been outbreaks of a drug-resistant fungus in North Texas and officials say two people have already died.

The fungus is called Candida auris, and it is resistant to all three major classes of medications, according to health officials.

On yesterday's Ask The Experts, Dr. Ben Neuman, the chief virologist at the Texas A&M Global Health Research Complex, said fungus is weirdly similar to our own cells.

The fungus is especially dangerous to hospital and nursing home patients with serious medical issues, and it is most deadly when it enters the bloodstream.

It is currently spreading in two North Texas hospitals; and thus far, it has killed two people.
