Two people died after being trapped in the garage of a Burleson home during an early morning house fire Sunday, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 12:33 a.m. to the 600 block of Northwest Douglas Street, according to a news release from the Burleson Fire Department. Multiple fire engines and medics arrived and began attacking the blaze while searching the home for victims. Crews from Crowley and Fort Worth also assisted, bringing the total response to 21 fire units.

No one was found during an initial sweep of the main living area, officials said. A separate crew later located two adults in the garage. Both were taken to a hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Neighbors told officials an elderly woman lived in the home with her adult son. Authorities have not released the victims’ identities.

Police believe the fire was accidental. No firefighters were injured, and the blaze was contained without damaging nearby homes, officials said.
