Fort Worth police are investigating two separate officer-involved shootings that left two men dead over the weekend, occurring less than 14 hours apart.
The first incident unfolded Saturday night in the parking lot of the M&M Inn and Suites along I-35W, between Reisinger Road and Everman Parkway. According to Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia, officers were attempting to arrest an armed, wanted felon who had recently cut off his ankle monitor. A police chase ended at the motel parking lot, where the encounter escalated into gunfire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Less than 14 hours later, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sunday morning at an apartment complex in West Fort Worth, roughly 16 miles away from the first scene. Chief Garcia stated that during the encounter, an armed man advanced toward officers while holding a knife. After repeatedly ignoring commands to drop the weapon, the man was shot and killed by police in the complex's parking lot.
Chief Garcia noted that investigators are currently reviewing body camera footage and collecting evidence from both scenes. Further details regarding both incidents are expected to be released later this week.
