Two people, including a 17-year-old girl, were killed Monday afternoon after a fight escalated into gunfire at a city park in East Fort Worth, police said.

Officers were responding to an unrelated call around 2:15 p.m. when they heard shots coming from the 1500 block of Liberty Street. When they arrived, they found a female victim with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as 17-year-old Cyanna Boone.

About five minutes later, a second shooting was reported in the 1700 block of Handley Drive. Officers found a victim with a gunshot wound inside a parked car. That person was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arriving, police said.

Investigators said another person had been in the car but ran from the scene. That individual was later found at a nearby home.

Detectives believe a group of 15 to 20 people gathered at the park on Liberty Street, where a verbal dispute turned into a physical fight before an unidentified suspect opened fire. Police said they believe the two shootings are connected but do not think there is an ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests had been announced Monday.
