Two balloon pilots are in the hospital following last night's crash into some power lines in Kaufman County.
Officials say the balloon crashed to the ground in flames in Crandall about 7:30 p.m. It was piloted by two men from Poland taking part in a cross-country balloon race that began in Albuquerque Saturday night.
One of the pilots was rushed by Care-Flite to Parkland Hospital in Dallas while the other was taken to a local hospital by a ground ambulance.
Investigators say the gas balloon veered into the power lines along FM 741 north of Crandall, but they don't know why.
The Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race had at least a dozen balloons flying over North Texas on Monday.
