Two teens have been arrested in connection with a March crash that killed a 53-year-old woman, Arlington police said.
Arlington Police investigators obtained warrants for 18-year-old Adam Hamad and a juvenile male on one count each of racing on a highway causing death. Both were taken into custody April 15th by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force without incident.
Hamad was booked into the Arlington City Jail, while the juvenile was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police said the crash happened March 6th near South Cooper Street and Eden Road.
Tanya Cypert, 53, was driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson and attempted to turn left when her vehicle was struck by a northbound 2025 Mercedes-Benz C300 driven by Hamad. Cypert was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Witnesses reported the Mercedes and other vehicles appeared to be racing before the crash, speeding and weaving through traffic. Surveillance video supported those accounts, police said.
Data from the Mercedes showed it was traveling more than 100 mph in a 45 mph zone at the time of the crash. Investigators believe the juvenile, who was driving a 2012 Lexus IS, was racing the Mercedes, though that vehicle was not involved in the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
