TxDOT crews are already out getting the roads ready for the arctic blast that's coming our way.
TxDOT trucks are out in full force, spraying brine on the roadways. What the brine does is lower the freezing point of water so that ice does not bond to the roadway.
Val Lopez with TxDOT says it's important that they take care of this now and not when it's too late.
The main focus is on elevated roadways like bridges and interchanges. They will always freeze first because they lack the insulation that the ground provides for the main lanes.
