TxDOT is getting ready for the cold weather with North Texas already having had its first drop into the 30s this season.
TxDOT's Val Lopez says the agency has reviewed its response from the record cold in February and decided to get more plows. But he also says the temperatures in Texas are more likely to stay near freezing, so TxDOT needs to be ready for water to freeze on the roads.
TxDOT's Patrick Clarke says the agency has brine to pre-treat roads as well as de-icer and plows to respond to changing conditions.
He says the Dallas district has 450 employees and the Fort Worth district has another 200 who work to keep roads clear, but he says during ice or snow, the safest plan is to stay home.
