If you were the head of the Texas Department of Transportation, what would you do?
That's exactly what TxDOT wants to know as it works through the long-term planning process.
It's called Connecting Texas 2050, and the findings in public meetings, both virtually and in-person, will help guide TxDOT’s planning and programming for the next 30 years.
"TxDOT likes to plan ahead," TxDOT Dallas public information officer Kendall Sloan said. "We want to make sure we do what we do the right way, and we're doing what Texas wants, what's best for Texas, and what the public really needs."
These meetings will be a key part of the planning process as TxDOT outlines its goals. With Texas growing rapidly, TxDOT must stay decades ahead to anticipate needs.
"That's one thing I know is frustrating for people overall. They don't realize how long everything that we do takes. When it comes to expanding a roadway or some of our improvements, it is a process," Sloan said.
The virtual meeting is open now.
In North Texas, there is an in-person meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 4 at the North Central Texas Council of Governments from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Transportation Council Room.
