North Texas travelers aren’t alone this Fourth - the American Automobile Association (AAA) projects a record-breaking 72.2 million Americans will journey at least 50 miles from home between June 28 and July 6, marking a 1.7 million-person increase from 2024 and 7 million more than in 2019.

Of that massive total, 61.6 million drivers - a 2.2% rise - will likely clog interstates like I‑20 and I‑35, while 5.84 million passengers - up 1.4% - will take to the skies at hubs including DFW and Love Field.

Locally, AAA and traffic analysts urge North Texans to avoid peak congestion by hitting the road early - before 11 a.m. - especially on July 2 and July 6, while heaviest TSA volumes at DFW are expected Sunday, July 6 - when up to 2.9 million nationwide could be screened.

Travelers are advised to plan for potential delays - in late morning and afternoon hours on highways, and in terminals during peak TSA periods - and to pack patience, snacks, and a valid REAL ID for secure and sane travel ahead of the big long weekend.
