PROSPER - The shooting death of a 23-year-old British woman inside a Prosper home more than a year ago is drawing renewed international attention after authorities in the United Kingdom opened a formal investigation into the case.
The woman was fatally shot in 2024 at her father’s home in Prosper, north of Dallas, following what officials described as a heated argument. According to previously released information from local authorities, the father told investigators the gun discharged during an interaction involving the weapon. The dispute reportedly centered on political differences.
Prosper police investigated the shooting at the time and presented the case to a Collin County grand jury. The grand jury declined to indict the father, and no criminal charges were filed in Texas.
The case is resurfacing now because British authorities have opened an inquest into the death of one of their citizens. Under UK law, an inquest is required in certain circumstances when a British national dies abroad, particularly in cases involving violent or unexplained deaths.
Local officials in Texas have said the investigation here concluded with the grand jury decision. There have been no new charges filed in the United States.
The UK inquiry is focused on examining the circumstances of the death and reviewing evidence gathered by American authorities. It does not automatically reopen the criminal case in Texas.
Authorities in both countries have not announced any additional action beyond the inquest proceedings.
