For the first time in the basketball program's history the University of North Texas men's basketball team has won the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) played for the first time this year in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday, the Mean Green beat Wisconsin in one of the NIT semi-finals and Thursday night UNT bested UAB 68-61 to win the title.

The Mean Green also became the first team in Conference USA to win the NIT since 2002.

Senior Tylor Perry once again put on a show as he scored 20 or more points for the fourth time in five NIT contests to be named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Perry finished Thursday night with 20 points, a season-high five steals and three assists to lead UNT to its third win over the UAB Blazers in four tries this season.
