The University of North Texas is launching the North Texas Promise program to cover full tuition and mandatory fees for qualifying first-time freshmen beginning fall 2026.

The benefit will pay for up to four years (eight semesters) for Texas residents who graduate from a Texas high school, come from families with incomes of $100,000 or less and either rank in the top 25 % of their class or qualify for a federal Pell Grant, with no separate application required beyond a completed FAFSA by Feb. 15.

More than 3,500 incoming students could be eligible for the program, which aims to expand access to higher education and reduce student debt.
