Three men have pleaded guilty of robbing mail carriers at gunpoint.
The men identified as Jlynn Laneil Dunn, age 21, Daylin Darden, age 24, and D Colby Vashion Lewis, age 23 admitted to stealing a U.S. Postal Service arrow key at gunpoint on Oct. 2, 2023.
That master key is used by letter carriers to gather mail deposited in blue collection boxes and gave the robbers access to mailboxes to steal victim mail, checks, credit cards, bank account information and other sensitive information.
Authorities are offering a $150,000 reward for information about the string of robberies of mail carriers that have taken place across North Texas.
A mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint in Addison last week, authorities said. It was at least the third such incident in recent weeks. The suspect took a master key that opens apartment mailboxes.
The robbery was the latest in a string of robberies targeting letter carriers.
"I've been around for a long time and the fear that carriers are working with now was never an issue before," President of the National Association of Letter Carriers in Dallas Kim Lewis said. The main concern for a letter carrier was a dog attacking them."
The defendants in this particular case now face up to 10 years in federal prison and their sentencing is set for September 3.
