A computer science senior at UT Dallas has developed a new "maps" app that could save drivers tons of time and gas money.
Tom Vazhekatt said he came up with the idea when he was a teenager and his parents would send him to run errands.
Google maps or Apple maps would guide him from stop to stop but not calculate the shortest trip overall.
So he developed an app that does just that.
It's called "Routora," and it'll be available on Apple and Android starting Thursday, Sept. 28.
"[Calculating] the best order of stops is really a game changer especially if you're in the delivery business," Vazhekatt said. "It can really save you hours and hours of drive time."
Vazhekatt already won $25,000 for the app in a Big Ideas competition. He plans on marketing it full-time after he graduates.
