(Uvalde, TX) -- Under pressure, the Uvalde school district police chief has stepped down from his unpaid spot on the City Council. Pete Arredondo won a seat on the council just 17 days before the deadly school shooting for which he has been relentlessly criticized over his command decisions.
He was sworn in the week after the shooting but has not yet attended a meeting. The council has been under steady pressure to un-seat Arredondo. Now, in a letter dated July 1st, Arredondo says he is stepping down for the good of the city and "...to minimize further distractions.". He has also been on administrative leave from the school district since June 22nd.
