Vaccination site at Dallas' Fair Park switching to drive-through model

Starting today, the vaccination site at Fair Park in Dallas is switching to a drive-through model, much like the mega drive thru site at Texas Motor Speedway.

Officials say transforming the vaccination site at Fair Park into a drive thru site should help distribute more vaccines, and faster.

Once the new drive thru system is fully operational, officials say the hub will be capable of administering as many as 12,000 vaccines a day, if the county has the supplies for it.

In Denton County, the drive thru hub at the Texas Motor Speedway is opening again today. Last week, the drive thru site administered more than 27,000 vaccines in just three days.

The vaccination process at the Speedway ran so smoothly that the 16-lane drive thru's only line was the one that required people to wait 15 minutes after getting the shot to make sure they didn't have an allergic reaction.

Something to keep in mind: You do need an appointment to get the vaccine at either hub
